Never Come Back
03:05

When we hit thunder over Tulsa
I prayed the plane would crash
Falling from the sky
Still feels a safer path
Than Phoenix Summer Folsom
With no great escape
No man in black nor white
to sing my blues away
I'll just be showering at Chevron
Sleeping in my car
Hiding from the light
in every basement bar
Baby you'd be dead wrong
to say I deserved more
I'm trying to live right
It's just good for dying poor
Everything I own up in storage on the mountain
Staring down the barrel, another month of couches
Then you go and tell me
You don't want me home
I know this train goes on
That's why I laying on the track
You like me better when I'm gone
Maybe you'll love me
If I never come back
Then my phone it gets to ringing
but I know it won't be you
just momma on the line
I'm sparing her the truth
I tell her that my singing
Worked just as I planned
Say I never cry
And I live a happy man

Don't Play Dumb

Honey don't play dumb
You had my love
You left me lonely
For so long
Everything I gave
You turned away
So I moved my love
Along
You only kissed me under cover of night
Then blamed the wine
Three times denied
Still I loved you
It aint our fault that we had to hide
But over forty nights
A hopeful lie
Still don't feel true
When you hold me
like someone you never really knew

Black Magic

You wanna leave
You wanna quit this place
So do I
You better squeeze
Better get your take
Before the borderline
I got a feeling
I didn't get the job in the city
Stickin it in the sticks
Everyone knows the wood
Is where the devil lives
I got a feeling
A little black magic is on our side
A little blood spilled won't hurt this time
Our betters be Jekyll, We be Hyde
A little black magic is on our side
You want to see me get mean?
You don't know when to leave
It hasn't rained in 6 weeks
The heat is getting to me
I got a feeling
A little black magic is on our side
A little blood spilled won't hurt this time
Our betters be Jekyll, We be Hyde
A little black magic is on our side

Cherry Hill

Sittin on the porch of Eva Loquita
Called in from the kitchen that night
Spent the afternoon and the shine of the moon
with friends of mine
Roarke taps a bottle, Dj's asleep
August Joe tunes a fiddle to me
We stomp the boards, and the dust swirls
At our feet
We've been trapped inside with crazy neighbors
Holdin our tongue, holdin our anger but now
The way is clear
Everyone's got a song to sing
But on this filthy porch with rusty strings
This is the song
You'll hear
It goes Oh,
You can live on Cherry Hill
But know, it is no use
All good things, all good things, they come
From a garage in Santa Cruz
There might be danger in a strangers van
But I jumped in when I
Caught her traveling from Apache Junction she
Bought me breakfast on the beach
Just a couple carrots and an apple or two
She said "you eat like a horse, bet you run like one too" then
She flew away from me
I sang Oh,
You can live on Cherry Hill
But know, it is no use
All good things, all good things, they come
From a garage in Santa Cruz
She would've stayed for somethin good
If I asked her for a moment, I'm sure she would
She would've rested her wings
But I was sittin on the porch singing songs with you
When I got the news, shes comin up North and
I will show her the spring
We'll sing Oh
You can live on Cherry Hill
But know, it is no use
All good things, all good things, they come
From a garage in Santa Cruz

I was taking you back home to Hollywood
Our date in Diego went better than good
Taking every reason to drive slow that I could
We stopped at a small town in the sprawl
Any old town, didn't matter at all
We met the right people, we never won't have a ball
Did you feel a little somehting? I can't be sure
Honestly it's probably nothing
We might've accidentally fell in love on a street in Tustin
We only intended to have some fun
We shoulda read the rest of the pages we're on
Shoulda known better when we know how long I'll be gone
But it couldn't keep us from the swinging door
A toast to crow goddess and a heavy pour
is good medicine but we ain;t sick, we just bored
Did you feel a little somehting? I can't be sure
Honestly it's probably nothing
We might've accidentally fell in love on a street in Tustin
Lord, how the storm
Can break loose in one morn
to soak the roads with two hearts feeling torn
Torn
Did you feel a little somehting? I can't be sure
Honestly it's probably nothing
We might've accidentally fell in love on a street in Tustin

Drove from near the border to the city of gold
Eleven Hours on the Five
That kind of moving will make you feel old
But we heard that there was work on the otherside
Richard had a farm there up in the hills
He was paying out for trimming trees
We made it out stacked with tax free bills
A grip of good friends and sticky company
Then we thought to check out Chico while the getting was good
Kept the stone burnin on
No phone to guide us through the dirty wood but
Finding our way, it was never a problem
We know how to go down a road
In Sacramento we went into the dive
There was a mermaid tank above the bar
People so cool we were sure they had died
But we got em to move to kick us out on the tar
We know how to go down a road
